Chronic kidney disease is a long-term condition where the kidneys do not work effectively. Chronic kidney disease does not normally cause symptoms until it reaches an advanced stage. It is usually detected at earlier stages by blood and urine tests. It can be caused by a number of factors including:

  • high blood pressure
  • diabetes
  • age
  • genetics
