Overview

Cancer is a condition where cells in a specific part of the body grow and reproduce uncontrollably. The cancerous cells can invade and destroy surrounding healthy tissue, including organs.

There are more than 200 different types of cancer and 1 in 2 people in the UK will get cancer in their lifetime.

Following cancer treatment, a healthy lifestyle can help your body to recover and some people choose to make positive lifestyle changes.

Making lifestyle changes may help to reduce the risk of cancer. Some changes include:

  • Stopping smoking
  • Eating a healthy diet
  • Being physically active
  • Keeping to a healthy weight
  • Following recommended alcohol guidelines

This guidance relates to those who have completed cancer treatment. If you are currently receiving treatment please seek advice and support from the team at your hospital.
